The organisation recognises that meeting regulatory requirements and protecting worker health in the Coal Mining industry is vital for safe operations. Previously, manual processes for conducting health surveillance using spreadsheets required a high administrative workload and were prone to errors. This approach posed challenges in tracking compliance, maintaining regulatory requirements for Coal Board subsequent reviews, and assessing health changes over time.

Implementation

A collaboration with the organisation led to the creation of Similar Exposure Groups tailored to the specific health monitoring needs of various roles within the Coal Mining industry, along with company-specific pre-employment and periodic medical requirements. These requirements were implemented in Carelever, facilitating bespoke testing at both pre-employment and ongoing health surveillance assessments. Comprehensive training was provided, along with the migration of historical data from spreadsheets and physical health records to the Carelever system.

Results

Carelever significantly reduced the administrative workload associated with health monitoring for the organisation.

The system guarantees regulatory compliance, preventing workers from being locked off-site due to an invalid Coal Board medical certificate. Additional benefits include real-time tracking of subsequent reviews, periodic renewals, appointment scheduling, and digitisation of forms and assessments, all of which contribute to ensuring the safety, health, and compliance of the organisation’s operations.
